Gillian Smith
Senior Director
From my professional and academic experiences, I have developed expertise in the many aspects of Section 35 rights. I also hold complimentary skillsets including impact assessments and community studies, policy analysis and technical reviews, applied research, creative problem solving, regulatory process, and project management. I aim to leverage my expertise and skillsets to best support our clients.
I hold two degrees – a Master of Public Policy with a specialization in Energy and Environment Policy and the duty to consult and accommodate, and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Leadership Studies. In addition, I have completed several professional development courses, including strategic planning, change management, conflict resolution, process mapping, facilitation, and trauma-informed interviewing.
Before joining Calliou Group, I worked in Indigenous Consulting Services at MNP, supporting Indigenous nations, government bodies, and companies, throughout Canada on various projects related to Indigenous peoples and their rights. Before that, I worked for the Vecova Centre for Disability and Research Services, leading applied research and strategy projects. I also previously worked with the Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy on the Confident Learners Initiative where I supported the development of literacy curriculum and conducted evaluation data collection, in partnership with First Nations across the country.
When not working, you can most often find me sharing meals and memories with my family and friends, exploring the outdoors, curling up with my cat and a cup of tea, or running my favourite route along the Bow River in Calgary.
“In my role as a Senior Director with Calliou Group, I place an emphasis on collaboration, creativity, and strategic thinking. I like to work closely with our clients to arrive at tailored, effective solutions that align with their specific objectives and respect their unique values, governance structures, and contexts.”
