on Rights
But what are those rights?
Indigenous peoples have rights that are protected under Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982.
35 (1)
“The existing aboriginal and treaty rights of the aboriginal peoples of Canada are hereby recognized and affirmed.”
The full scope of Section 35 rights are not recognized by Canada.
The rights of Indigenous peoples are frequently
misunderstood,
diminished,
or ignored
in Canada by the Crown and broader Canadian public.
This leaves Indigenous peoples to continually fight for their rights to be respected, considered, and protected.
